Your Job Resume

A security guard resume that shows licenses, sites, and how you handle incidents

Security employers hire for trust, and they screen for licenses before they read anything else. Your resume should show your guard registration, the kinds of sites you have protected, and how you handle incidents and reports. This builder is set up around those points.

What to put on a security guard resume

  • Put your license status right at the top. Employers check that your guard registration is active before reading further. If it is expired, do not list it as current. Say when you will renew it.

  • Describe each site. Residential, corporate, retail, hospital, or event security are different jobs. Name the type and size of each site and what your post covered.

  • Show how you handle incidents. Give examples like response to alarms, medical calls, or conflicts handled without escalation. Good reports and calm judgment are what employers pay for.

  • Mention report writing and logs. Clear, accurate, on-time reports protect your employer and the client. Say how often you write them and what you document.

  • Supervisors: list team size and duties. Include the number of officers, shifts, and responsibilities like scheduling, training, and report review. Those details show leadership in numbers.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Listing an expired license as active
  • Writing "watched cameras and walked around" instead of describing real duties and incidents
  • Leaving out site type, size, and shift details

Dear Hiring Manager,

I am applying for the Security Officer position at Summit Corporate Security. I have seven years of experience in commercial and residential security, including three years supervising a team of twelve officers at a large commercial tower.

I hold an active state security guard registration and current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification. In my current role, I review daily activity and incident reports, coordinate emergency responses, and train new officers on post orders and de-escalation.

I take pride in being dependable on every shift and calm when things get tense. I would welcome the chance to talk about how I can support your sites.

Sincerely,
Andre Williams

Questions

What do I put on a security guard resume with no experience?

Use any related background like customer service, loss prevention, military, or volunteering. Put your registration and training near the top. Show that you are reliable and can write clear reports.

Should I say whether I am armed or unarmed?

Yes, if it matters for the job. List your armed credentials or firearms training if you have them, and say clearly if you work unarmed.

How do I show that I can write good reports?

Say how many reports you write in a typical week, what they cover, and any feedback from clients or supervisors. A short line is enough.

Do I need a cover letter?

A short cover letter helps for corporate and hospital positions, where employers want to see that you communicate clearly. For many guard jobs, a strong resume is enough.
